Of course,you may program the remote to have anyof the devices take on the code set of anyother device, as your system requires.And, with the remote’s “Edit” function,you can even change the way the nameof the device appears on the remote’sLCD display so that you see exactly whichcommands are being sent.NOTE: You may not change the devicetypes for the DVD/MAIN device(CVR700’s internal DVD/CD changer), theFM/AM (TUNER) device, the SCREENdevice (controls CVPD50 functions) or theSYSTEM device (controls CVR700’sreceiver functions).To program the buttons normally assignedto one device for the commands ofanother, follow these steps:1. Press and hold the Remote MenuButton b for about 3 secondswhile the message shown in Figure54 appears in the remote’s LCDInformation Display 2. Releasethe button when the red light underthe Set Button s appears.2. The remote’s MAIN MENU message(Figure 55), will appear in the LCDdisplay and the Set Button s willremain illuminated in red. Press the⁄ Navigation Button q untilCHANGE DEVICE appears on thebottom line of the LCD screen, asshown in Figure 75. Press the SetButton s to begin the process ofreassigning the commands used for aparticular device.Figure 753. Next, you will select the InputSelector d for the device that youwish to change. When the displayshown in Figure 76 appears, press the⁄ /¤ Navigation Button q toscroll through the list to find thedevice you wish to use for anotherfunction. In this case, we will select“TIVO,” and show how to change it totake on the codes for operating aVCR. When that device’s nameappears, press the Set Button s.Figure 764. The old device namewill remain on the left side of theLCD screen, while the replacementdevice list will scroll to its right. Forexample, press the ⁄ NavigationButton q until the display screenreads TIVO<-VCR to have the digi-tal recorder Button transmit the com-mands used to control a VCR. Pressthe Set Button s when thedesired device combination appears.Figure 775. Once the new device is selected, theremainder of the process will selectthe codes for the specific brand tobe used, and for that reason theyare identical to the way a device isprogrammed using manual entry.Continue the process as outlined inthe next few steps, remembering thatif the codes for your specific deviceare not found, you may select anybrand and then “learn” the propercodes into the remote using theprocess outlined on page 78. To beginthe process, start by selecting thebrand of device, as shown in Figure57. Press the ⁄ /¤ NavigationButton q until the brand name ofthe device you are programming intothe remote appears on the lower lineof the display and then press theSet Button s.6. The next step is important, as itdetermines which codes will operatethe source device or display. Pointthe remote at the device being pro-grammed and, following the instruc-tions shown on the remote’s LCDInformation Display 2, pressand release the Numeric Keys lone at a time, starting with the “1”Button l. After you press the “1”Button l, the remote’s LCD screenwill briefly go blank as the code isbeing transmitted, but you will seethe “transmit” icon in the upper rightcorner of the display to serve as con-firmation that the remote is sendingout commands.7. After you press and release the num-ber key, watch the device being pro-grammed to see whether it turns off.As shown in the instructions that willappear on the next menu screen(Figure 61), press the Set Buttons, and then skip to Step 9. If theunit does not turn off, proceed to thenext step.8. If the device being programmed intothe remote does not turn off after youhave pressed the “1” Button l,continue Steps 6 and 7 by pressingthe available numeric keys shownuntil the device turns off. If the devicestill does not turn off after all choiceshave been tried, the code for thisspecific device is not in the remotelibrary under that brand name. If thatis the case, we suggest that youpress the Set Button s to acceptthe codes from another brand so thatthe programming is completed, butremember that you will then have toprogram the remote manually by fol-lowing the Learning Commandsinstructions on page 78.9. When the device being programmeddoes turn off after a numeric key hasbeen pressed, you must press the SetButton s within five seconds toenter the setting into the remote’smemory. After you press the Set but-ton, the top line of the LCD displaywill read SAVING... and then theword SAVED will flash four times inthe center of the bottom line.10. When the codes are saved the remotewill return to normal operation, andwhenever you press the InputSelector Button 3 that was justprogrammed, the display will showthe original device type code at thefar left side of the display, with thename of the new code set type inbrackets. For example, the displaywill read TIVO<-VCR in our exam-ple of replacing the TiVo codes withthose for a VCR.Macro ProgrammingMacros enable you to easily repeat fre-quently used combinations of multipleremote control commands with the touchof a single button. Once a macro is pro-grammed, you may send up to 20 com-mands with one press of the Power On orMacro buttons.
