70DVD PLAYBACKUsing a DVD’s MenuOne of the unique features of the DVDsystem is that it offers a producer theopportunity to include a wide range offeatures on a disc, including multiple-language tracks; subtitles in a variety oflanguages; special information such asmovie trailers and cast information; aswell as other customized information. Inaddition, producers may divide a movie orprogram into chapters that allow for quickaccess to specific parts of the program.These chapters may be accompanied bythumbnail pictures of a scene from thespecific chapter to help you select thedesired spot on the disc.When a disc is playing, press the DiscMenu Button j to pause theplayback and display the disc’s menu. Asthere are no hard rules about style andcontent for DVD menus, the way theyappear on the screen and the informationthey contain will vary from one disc toanother. However, the following generalrules apply to most menus:• The first menu that appears is the MainMenu, and you may move through theoptions with the Navigation ⁄¤‹›Buttons q , as the disc’sprogramming allows. The option selectedwill typically be highlighted in a certaincolor or inside an outline box.• To select a highlighted option, whichmay either play a portion of the disc ormove to a submenu, press the SetButton s or Play Button!e .• On some discs, when you select theDVD menu during the playback of amovie, the disc will return to the pointin the program where the menu wasselected by offering a “Play Movie”option. Press the Set Button sor Play Button !e to resumeplay. However, not all discs offer thisfeature, and selecting the menu whileplaying a movie may mean that you willeither have to go back to the beginningof the program or the start of a chapter.This feature is out of the control of theCVR700, as it is set by the disc’s inter-nal programming.Important Notes on DVDPlaybackThe sensitive CVPD50 plasma displayscreen is vulnerable to “burn-in” if anystill image remains on screen for anylength of time. It doesn’t take very longfor an image to burn in, and it is impor-tant to avoid leaving certain displays onscreen for more than a few minutes, as“burn-in” cannot be repaired, and will notbe covered by your warranty. Therefore,DO NOT leave DVD menu screens on dis-play for more than a brief period of timeunless they contain movement. Eitherbegin play of the movie, or turn off thesystem (especially the screen) after 5minutes.The CVR700 is capable of all the featuresand options covered by the DVD standards.However, it is up to the producer of aDVD disc to decide which of those fea-tures and functions are available on anygiven disc. For that reason, not all discswill function identically, and some discswill not have many of the features of theDVD system. For example, most currentDVD discs do not take advantage of themultiple-angle feature. When you pressa button and the player displays the“Feature Not Available” message, this isan indication that the disc has not beenprogrammed for that feature, or that theCVR700 is not capable of executing thatcommand on that disc in the currentmode.In addition, it is common for the produc-ers of DVD discs to block the use of cer-tain functions during only some parts of adisc. For example, many discs prohibit theuse of fast-play buttons or prohibit accessto the Chapter Menu display during theplayback of copyright notices, studiologos, movie credits or trailers. Theappearance of the “Feature NotAvailable” message, or the inability ofcertain features to operate when the discitself has prohibited them, does not indi-cate a problem with the CVR700, as thesefeatures are outside of the unit’s control.• Some DTS discs contain incorrect digi-tal flags that may initially cause theCVR700 to display incorrect informationon the available surround modes orother features. This is the fault of thedisc author and not the CVR700, whichwill correctly process the disc’s bit-stream once it has been detected andidentified.NOTES ON DVD-AUDIO DISCS:• Some DVD-Audio discs contain twomenus, one used when the disc isplayed on a DVD-Audio player, and aDVD-Video menu used on older playersthat do not recognize the DVD-Audioformat. You may view the DVD-Videomenu by turning off the CVR700’s DVD-Audio capability temporarily, using theDVD Setup menu (see Figure 31). Youmay wish to do this in order to accesscertain audio surround tracks, such asDolby Digital 5.1 or PCM on the disc.When you have finished exploring theDVD-Video capabilities of the disc,remember to restore the CVR700’sDVD-Audio capability.• Some DVD-Audio discs do not permityou to access the disc menu using theMenu Button j . However,pressing the Title Button y or theAudio Button U may provide menuaccess. In addition, you may simplyplace the disc in Stop mode and playthe tracks in order.Zoom FeatureThe CVR700’s advanced digital video pro-cessing circuits include a Zoom featurethat allows you to enlarge the image forcloser examination of a particular part ofthe picture. Four steps of enlargement areavailable.• To use the Zoom feature, press theZoom Button k while a disc isplaying or paused. Each press of thebutton will increase the zoom-in effect.When you have zoomed through allfour steps, the picture will return tonormal size.• When in any of the Zoom modes, youmay use the Navigation ⁄¤‹›Buttons q to navigatearound the frame.• Some discs are created in a way thatprevents the Zoom feature from operat-ing. In addition, the Zoom feature willnot operate on disc menus and may notoperate on subtitles.• The Zoom function is not available forVCD or JPEG discs.33343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 48
