63feed to the CVR700 or to select betweenDolby Digital or DTS. It is also possiblefor the type of signal feed to change dur-inh the course of a DVD’s playback. Insome cases, the previews or specialmaterial will be recorded in 2.0 audio, while the main feature is available in 5.1audio. The CVR700 will automaticallysense changes to the bitstream and chan-nel count and reflect them in these indi-cators.The letters used by the Speaker/Channel Input Indicators F also flashto indicate when a bitstream has beeninterrupted. This will happen when a digi-tal input source is selected before theplayback starts, or when a digital sourcesuch as a DVD is paused. The flashingindicators remind you that the playbackhas stopped due to the absence of a digi-tal signal and not through any fault of theCVR700. This is normal, and the digitalplayback will resume once the playbackis started again. When a 6.1-channel mode, such as DolbyDigital EX, is detected, a line will appearconnecting the SBL and SBR channels toreflect that the same signal is being out-putted through both back surround chan-nels. The line will disappear when a 7.1-channel mode, such as Logic 7, is in use.At this time, there are no 7.1-channel dig-ital formats available.Night ModeA special feature of Dolby Digital is theNight mode, which enables speciallyencoded Dolby Digital input sources to beplayed back with full digital intelligibilitywhile reducing the minimum peak levelby 1/4 to 1/3. This prevents abruptlyloud transitions from disturbing others, without reducing the impact of the digitalsource. The Night mode is available onlywhen Dolby Digital signals with specialdata are being played. The Night mode may be engaged when aDolby Digital DVD is playing by pressingthe Night Mode Button Z onthe remote. Next, press the ⁄/¤Navigation Button q to selecteither the middle range or full compres-sion versions of the Night mode. To turnthe Night mode off, press the ⁄/¤Navigation Button q until themessage in the lower third of the videodisplay and in the Lower Display LineE reads NIGHT MODE OFF.The Night mode may also be selected toalways be on at either level of compres-sion using the options in the DOLBYSURROUND menu. See page 47 forinformation on using the menus to setthis option.MP3 and WMA CompressedAudio PlaybackThe CVR700 is one of the few audio/video components equipped with onboarddecoding of the MP3 and WMA audioformats used by computers and portableaudio devices. By offering MP3 and WMAdecoding, the CVR700 is able to deliverprecise conversion of the digital signalsto an analog output, along with the bene-fits of listening to the MP3 or WMAaudio through the CVR700’s high-poweramplifier and the speakers from your sur-round system, rather than the smallerspeakers and low-powered amplifierstypically used with computers. To take advantage of the CVR700’s MP3and WMA capabilities, simply insert adisc containing MP3 or WMA audio filesinto the changer drawer. When the digitalsignal is available, the Lower DisplayLine E will indicate that an MP3 orWMA bitstream is present, and the audiowill begin playing.NOTES:• The CVR700 is only capable of playingsignals in the MP3 (MPEG 1/Layer 3)format, or in the Windows MediaAudio (WMA) format compatible withWindows Media player version 9 orgreater. It is not compatible with othercomputer audio codecs.• Due to the wide variation in MP3 andWMA formats and encoding speeds,it is possible that the CVR700 may notbe compatible with all MP3 or WMAfiles. Some may produce unacceptableresults or may not be decoded. This isnot a fault of either the computer orthe CVR700, but rather a by-product ofthe unpredictable nature of compressed-audio playback.• Even when your computer does nothave a digital output that is compatiblewith the CVR700, you may connect theanalog audio output available on virtu-ally all computers to one of the analogaudio inputs using an optional adaptorcable that converts the stereo miniplug commonly used for computeraudio connections to the left/right RCAjacks used on the CVR700. Connectingyour computer to the CVR700 willenable you to take advantage of thehigh-quality audio reproduction possi-ble with a home theater system, aswell as enable the use of surround pro-cessing modes such as Logic 7, togreatly enhance downloaded orstreaming audio playback.IMPORTANT NOTES ON DIGITALPLAYBACK:• When the digital playback source isstopped, or in a pause, fast forward orsearch mode, digital audio data willmomentarily stop, and the channelposition letters inside the Speaker/Channel Input Indicators F willflash. This is normal and does not indi-cate a problem with either the CVR700or the source machine. The CVR700will return to digital playback as soonas the data is available.• Some source devices, particularly cableset-top boxes, will switch back andforth between digital and analog audiooutputs, depending on the channelbeing watched. To avoid losing soundwith this type of product, it is recom-mended that you connect both the digi-tal and analog audio outputs of thesource to the CVR700, with the digitalaudio input set as the default followingthe steps shown on page 46. If the dig-ital data stream is interrupted and thesound mutes, you will need to manuallyswitch to the analog audio input bypressing the Audio Input Buttonk and using the ⁄/¤Navigation Buttons q toselect the analog audio input for thecurrent source. Press the Set Buttons to enter your selection andreturn to normal operation. Whenswitching to a digital channel, followthe same procedure, except select theappropriate digital audio input for thesource. This switching is not a fault ofeither the CVR700 or the cable box,as it is caused by the use of differentaudio technologies on different chan-nels by the cable company or programsupplier.• Although the CVR700 will decode virtu-ally all current DVD movies, CDs andHDTV sources, it may not be compatiblewith future digital sources.• When a digital source is playing, youmay not be able to select some of theanalog surround modes such as DolbyPro Logic II, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Hall,Theater or Logic 7.• When a Dolby Digital or DTSsource is playing, it is not possibleto make an analog recording usingthe Digital Recorder AnalogAudio/Video Outputs ‚ or the33343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 48
