Forexample, motion pictures or TV programsbearing the logo of one of the major sur-round-encoding processes, such as DolbySurround or DTS Stereo may be played ineither the Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic IIMovie, Dolby Pro Logic IIx Movie, DTSNeo:6 Cinema, or Logic 7 Cinema surroundmodes, depending on the source material.NOTE: Once a program has been encodedwith matrix surround information, itretains the surround information as longas the program is available in stereo. Thus, movies with surround sound may bedecoded via any of the analog surroundmodes such as Dolby Pro Logic II or IIxMovie, Logic 7 Cinema or DTS Neo:6Cinema, when they are broadcast via con-ventional TV stations, cable, pay-TV andsatellite transmission. Also, a number ofTV programs, sports broadcasts and radiodramas are recorded in surround sound.Even when a program is not listed as car-rying intentional surround information, you may find that the Dolby Pro Logic II,Logic 7, DTS Neo:6 and the Hall or Theatermodes often deliver enveloping surroundpresentations through the use of thenatural information present in all stereorecordings.Surround modes may be changed at anytime by using either the front panel orremote control. To select a new surroundmode from the front panel, press theSurround Mode Selector * repeatedlyuntil the desired surround mode is selected. To select a surround mode using theremote, press the button for the surroundmode group that includes the mode youwish to choose: Dolby p , DTSDigital o , DTS Neo:6 e ,Logic 7 i , Stereo p orDSP Surround g . The first pressof the button will show the current modefrom that group if it is already in use, orthe first available mode if you are cur-rently using another mode. To cyclethrough the available modes in thatgroup, press the button again until thedesired mode appears in the LowerDisplay Line E and in the front-panelSurround Mode Indicators G.The Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS5.1, DTS-ES Matrix and DTS-ES Discretemodes may only be selected when a digi-tal input is in use. In addition, when adigital source is present, the CVR700 willautomatically select and switch to thecorrect mode, regardless of the modethat has been previously selected. Formore information on selecting digitalsources, see the Digital Audio Playbacksection below. When a DVD-Audio disc is in use, thereis no surround processing, as the analogoutput signal from a DVD-Audio disc iscarried straight through to the preampsection. To listen to a program in traditional two-channel stereo, using the front left andright speakers only (plus the subwoofer,if installed and configured), press theStereo Mode Select Button muntil SURROUND OFF appears in theLower Display Line E. From the frontpanel, press the Surround Mode Selector* until SURROUND OFF appears inthe Lower Display Line E.Digital Audio PlaybackDigital audio is a major advancement overanalog surround processing systems. Itdelivers up to six discrete channels, andeach channel reproduces full frequencyrange (20Hz to 20kHz) and offers dramati-cally improved dynamic range and signifi-cant improvements to signal-to-noiseratios. In addition, digital systems have thecapability to deliver an additional channelthat is specifically devoted to low-fre-quency information. This is the “.1” chan-nel referred to when you see these sys-tems described as “5.1,” “6.1” or “7.1.”The bass channel is separate from theother channels, but since it is intentionallybandwidth-limited, sound designers havegiven it that unique designation.Dolby DigitalDolby Digital is a standard part of DVD,available on specially encoded LD discsand satellite broadcasts, and is a partof the high-definition television (HDTV)system. An optional, external RF demodulator isrequired to use the CVR700 to listen tothe Dolby Digital soundtracks availableon laser discs. Connect the RF output ofthe LD player to the demodulator andthen connect the digital output of thedemodulator to the Optical or CoaxialInputs cefhij9) of theCVR700 corresponding to the source (e.g.,AUX) you wish to use for your LD player. No demodulator is required for use withDVD players or DTS-encoded laser discs. The CVR700’s internal DVD/CD changerwill automatically detect and play anyDolby DVD loaded into it, and no externalconnections need to be made. However, the CVR700 is not capable of playing alaser disc, and an external LD playermust be connected to the CVR700.DTSDTS is a digital audio system capable ofdelivering 5.1 or 6.1 discrete or matrixsound field reproduction. Although bothDTS and Dolby Digital are digital, theyuse different methods of encoding thesignals, and thus they require differentdecoding circuits to convert the digitalsignals back to analog.DTS-encoded soundtracks are availableon select DVD and LD discs, as well ason audio-only DTS discs. The CVR700’sinternal DVD/CD changer will automati-cally detect and play any DTS-encodedDVD loaded into it, and no external con-nections need to be made. If you are con-necting an external device to the CVR700,be aware that you may use any LD or CDplayer equipped with a digital output toplay DTS-encoded discs with the CVR700.All that is required is to connect theplayer’s output to either an Opticalor Coaxial Input on the rear panelcefhij or front panel 9).In order to listen to DVDs encoded withDTS soundtracks, the DVD player must becompatible with the DTS signal, which isindicated by the “DTS Digital Out” logoon the player’s front panel. Some earlyDVD players were not able to play DTS-encoded DVDs. This does not indicate aproblem with the CVR700, as those play-33343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142 44 46 48 50 52 54 56383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 4833343536373839404142 44 46 48 50 52 54 56383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 48333435363738394041383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 48333435363738394041383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 483334 36 38 40383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31373635343332484950514746454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 48333839403132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 31363534333248495046454443421 2 3 4 5 67 8 9 10 11 1213 14 15 16 17 1819 20 21 22 23 2425 26 27 28 29 3031 32 33 34 35 3637 38 39 40 41 4243 44 45 46 47 48
