17INSTALLATIONCheck the appliance is electrically safe when you have flnished.Positioning the RangeFig. 7-1 shows the minimum recommended distances andclearances from the range to nearby surfaces.You MUST provide adequate clearances between the rangeand adjacent combustible surfaces. These dimensions MUSTbe met for safe use of your range.The location of the electrical outlet and pipe opening (seeGas Pipe and Electric Outlet Locations) may be adjusted tomeet specific requirements.A gap of at least 10” (25.4 cm) should be left between eachside of the range and any adjacent vertical surface (Fig. 7-1dimension ‘A’).A gap of 2” (5 cm) should be left ABOVE the cooktop leveland any adjacent vertical surface (Fig. 7-1 dimension ‘B’).The cooktop surround should be level with, or above, anyadjacent work surface.The maximum depth for cabinets installed above cooktops is13’’ (33 cm).See Fig. 7-2 for details of the minimum space requiredabove the cooktop to a horizontal surface. A = 30” (76.2 cm)minimum clearance between the top of the cooking surfaceand the bottom of an unprotected wood or metal cabinet.A = 24” (61 cm) minimum when bottom of wood or metalcabinet is protected by not less than 1/4” thick flame-retardant millboard covered with not less than No. 28 MSGsheet steel, 0.015” thick stainless steel, 0.024” thick aluminum,or 0.020” thick copper.The depth of the range is 27 ½’’ (69.8 cm) overall (Fig. 7-3).Any range hood should be installed in accordance with thehood manufacturer’s instructions.Any splashback must be fitted in accordance with themanufacturers instructions.
