31ENIntroduction Connections Basic Setup Playback Editing VCR Functions OthersFunction SetupRecording2 Select “Recording” using [U / D],then press [ENTER].3 Select “Recording Audio Select(XP)” using [U / D], then press[ENTER].4 Select “PCM” or “Dolby Digital”using [U / D], then press [ENTER].PCM: Records PCM audio for the bestquality sound.Dolby Digital: Records Dolby Digital audio for goodquality sound.5 Press [SETUP] to exit.Note• “PCM” stands for Pulse Code Modulation. Itchanges analogue sound to digital sound withoutcompressing audio data.• When the recording mode is set at other than XP,the unit records “Dolby Digital” audio automaticallyeven if you selected “PCM”.Basic RecordingFollow the steps below to record a TV programme.1 Press [ ON / STANDBY] to turn onthe unit.Turn on the TV and be sure to select the input towhich the unit is connected.2 Press [DVD].3 Press [OPEN / CLOSE O] to open thedisc tray.4 Place the disc on the disc tray withits label facing up. Be sure to alignthe disc with the disc tray guide.5 Press [OPEN / CLOSE O] to closethe disc tray.6 Select the recording mode using[REC MODE]. (See page 26.)7 Select the desired channel to recordusing [PROG. / ] or[the Number buttons].8 Press [REC I] to start recording.The “●” mark will be displayed for 5 seconds.To pause the recording, press [PAUSE p]. Press[PAUSE p] or [REC I] again to restart therecording.9 Press [STOP S] to stop the recording.This operation may take a few moments tocomplete.Hint• You can change the channel while in the REC pausemode.Note• Recording starts immediately and continues until thedisc is full or you stop recording.• If the clock is not set, the space for a date and timeof title names will be 01/01/07 and 00:00.• You cannot change the recording mode in the RECor REC pause mode.• If you want to monitor the programme that you arerecording, make sure the device such as a SatelliteBox is turned off or press [DISPLAY] when it isconnected to AV2.• Up to 99 titles can be recorded on the DVD-RW/-Rdiscs.• Up to 49 titles can be recorded on the DVD+RW/+Rdiscs.• NTSC recording is prohibited in this unit.• You can play back a title on one device while makinga recording on other device. To do so, simply selectthe device (DVD or VCR) you like to use for theplayback by pressing [DVD] or [VCR] button duringDVD / VCR recording.
