3–Fibre Channel ConfigurationConfiguring Virtual Ports (NPIV)48 BK3254601-00 CConfiguring NPIV Quality of ServiceThe QLogic 2700 Series Adapters solution provides for standards-based quality ofservice (QoS), ensuring high-quality performance for applications that requirepreferential delivery. The QLogic QoS solution is based on assigning QoS levelsto virtual ports (NPIV ports). You can configure the QoS using the prioritymethod or the bandwidth method, as shown in Figure 3-7.Figure 3-7. Priority and Bandwidth-Based QoSOn a single physical port, you can configure QoS using the priority method or thebandwidth method, but not both. The priority method assigns priority levels (low, medium, or high) to virtualports based on the quality of service required for the applications or VMsusing the virtual port. This method provides for various levels of latencyrequirements across virtual ports. The bandwidth method assigns a bandwidth percentage (0–100) or abandwidth rate (for example, 6Gbps) to applications or VMs that are using avirtual port. This method provides a minimum bandwidth guarantee. Thebandwidth-based QoS configuration applies only when the total bandwidthrequirement of the applications exceeds the available bandwidth. Thebandwidth is not reserved for a specific virtual port, and unused bandwidth isshared among the other virtual ports.
