English - 29 -HBBTV SystemHbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) is anew industry standard that seamlessly combinesTV services delivered via broadcast with servicesdelivered via broadband and also enables accessto Internet only services for consumers usingconnected TVs and set-top boxes. Servicesdelivered through HbbTV include traditionalbroadcast TV channels, catch-up services,video-on-demand, EPG, interactive advertising,personalisation, voting, games, social networkingand other multimedia applications.HbbTV applications are available on channelswhere they are signalled by the broadcaster(currently various channels on Astra broadcastHbbTV applications). The broadcaster marks oneapplication as “autostart” and this one is startedby the platform automatically. The autostartapplications are generally launched with a smallred button icon to notify the user that there is anHbbTV application on that channel Press the redbutton to open the application page. After the pageis displayed you can go back to the initial red buttonicon state by pressing the red button again. You cantoggle between the red button icon mode and fullUI mode of the application via pressing red button.It should be noted that the red button switchingcapability is provided by the application and someapplication may behave differently.If you switch to another channel while an HbbTVapplication is active (either in red button icon modeor full UI mode), the following scenarios can occur.• The application can continue running.• The application can be terminated.• The application can be terminated and anotherautostart red button application can be launched.HbbTV allows the applications to be retrieved bothfrom broadband or broadcast. The broadcastermay enable both ways or one of them. If theplatfrom does not have an operational broadbandconnection, the platform can still launch applicationstransmitted on broadcast.The autostart red button applications generallyprovide links to other applications. An example ofthis is shown below. The user then can switch toother applications by using the links provided. When an HbbTVapplications is launched, the control of somekeys are owned by the application. For example,numeric channel selection may not work on ateletext application where the numbers indicateteletext pages.HbbTV requires AV streaming capability for theplatform. There are numerous applications providingVOD (video on demand) and catch-up TV services.The user can use play, pause, stop, forward, andrewind keys on the remote control to interact withthe AV content.Note: You can enable or disable this feature from the Moremenu in Setup menu.
