IF THE TAMPER RESIST FEATURE HAS BEEN ACTIVATED,REFER TO TAMPER RESIST FEATURE DESCRIPTION ON PAGE17 FOR REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS.Remove the alarm from the mounting bracket by rotatingthe alarm in the direction of the “OFF” arrow on the cover.If any form of battery failure is detected the red LED light willflash and the unit will “chirp” one time, followed by thewarning message “LOW BATTERY”. This cycle will occur onceevery minute for the first hour. After the first hour, the red LEDlight will continue flashing accompanied by the chirp onlysound every 60 seconds. The voice message “LOW BATTERY”will sound once every fifteen minutes during the chirp onlycycle, and will continue for at least seven days.If the red LED light flashes along with a chirp every 30seconds, and is not followed by the voice message“LOW BATTERY” as described above, your unit hasmalfunctioned. Call our toll free Consumer Hotline at0800 917 0722 for instructions on how to return the unit.CAUTION: YOUR SMOKE/CO ALARM IS SEALED ANDTHE COVER IS NOT REMOVABLE!Note: If battery carrier tamper resist feature has been activatedit will need to be deactivated in order to change the battery.Refer to section 3 “Battery Carrier Tamper Resist Feature” forinstructions.To replace or install the battery press on the battery carrier andthen release to allow the carrier to pop open. The battery canthen be pulled out of the carrier. When installing a new batteryinto the carrier, make sure the battery terminals are exposedand that the polarity matches the markings printed on thebattery carrier. Completely press the battery carrier down intothe alarm and release, the battery carrier will lock into theclosed position.A missing or improperly installed battery will prevent thebattery carrier from closing and result in improper alarmoperation.This smoke alarm uses a 9V battery. A fresh battery should lastfor one year under normal operating conditions.Replace battery with one of the following approved brands:Duracell MN1604, MX1604, Energizer 522 and Gold Peak1604A.
