I General User Manual 74 Safety information4.1 Basic safety informationPlease read all the warnings and information in this UserManual carefully before using the bike. Keep this UserManual near your bike for ready reference.If you hand this bike over to someone else, don't forget togive them the User Manual as well.4.2 For your own safety› Always use a suitable bicycle helmet and wear itcorrectly.› Wear bright clothing or reflective elements sothat other road users can see you in good time.› Wear shoes with a stiff, and whenever possible,non-slip sole.› Wear close-fitting clothing on your legs, or weartrouser clips.› Wear protective clothing such as robust shoesand gloves.4.3 Information for parents and legalguardians› Make sure that your child has been taught, andalso understands, how to handle the bike safelyand responsibly in the environment in which it isgoing to be used.› Explain to your child how to operate all thebrakes, and also how they work and any specialfeatures. For further important information onthis matter, refer to ➠ Chapter 21 "Brake, brakelevers and brake systems".› As the legal guardian, you are responsible for thesafety of your child and any damage he/she maycause when cycling. You should therefore makeabsolutely sure that the bike is in technicallysound condition and adjust it regularly to thesize of the child.4.4 Safety in road traffic› Observe the applicable traffic regulations.› Never ride with no hands!› In some countries children below a certain agemust ride on the pavement and must also dis-mount when crossing the road. Please familiariseyourself with the applicable regulations.› Adjust your handling on wet or slippery roads;ride more slowly and brake carefully and in goodtime as you will require a much greater brakingdistance.› Adopt a speed that reflects the terrain as well asyour riding ability.› Do not listen to music through headphones whencycling.› Do not cycle when using a mobile phone.› Use designated cycle paths when not using pub-lic roads.
