I General User Manual 17Never tighten the handlebar stem if the maximummark or stop mark is above the top of the shaft. If youcannot find a mark, insert the handlebar stem intothe head tube to a depth of at least 6.5 cm. If you donot do this, the handlebar stem could come loose orbreak.9.3.2 Adjusting the handlebar height withA-head systemsWith the A-head stems shown here, the handlebar heightmust be adjusted by a professional bike workshop.9.3.3 Aligning handlebars with A-headsystems in relation to the front wheelTo align the handlebar with the front wheel, proceed asfollows:› Loosen the hexagon socket screws on the rear ofthe handlebar stem by turning them anticlockwisewith an Allen key.› Turn the handlebar so that it is exactly at rightangles to the front wheel.› Tighten the hexagon socket screw by turning itclockwise with an Allen key (see ➠ Chapter 30"Technical data").9.3.4 Adjusting the handlebar position byturning the handlebarLoosen the hexagon socket screws on the front of thestem. Turn the handlebar until you find the position thatis comfortable for you. Make sure that the handlebar isalways exactly in the centre of the stem. Now retighten thehexagon socket screws by turning them clockwise. If thetightening torque is stamped on the stem, use this value,and if not, use the tightening torques in ➠ Chapter 30"Technical data".Once you have adjusted the handlebar, you will also needto adjust the brake levers and gear-shift handles. Loosenthe hexagon socket screws on the handle grips. Sit onthe saddle and put your finger on the lever. Turn the le-ver until your hand and lower arm are in a straight line.Retighten the screws in the handle grips by turning themclockwise. (For tightening torques see ➠ Chapter 30 "Tech-nical data").
