Safety Instructions Operating Instructions Care and Cleaning Troubleshooting Tips Consumer Support35Using the self-cleaning lower oven. ge.comThe oven door must be closed and all controls must be set correctly for the cycle to work properly.Before a Clean CycleWe recommend venting your kitchenwith an open window or using aventilation fan or hood duringthe first self-clean cycle.Remove any broiler pan, broiler grid,probe, all cookware and any aluminumfoil from the oven.The oven racks can be self-cleaned, butthey will darken, lose their luster andbecome hard to slide.Do not use abrasives or oven cleaners.Clean the top, sides and outside of theoven door with soap and water.Make sure the oven light bulb cover(on some models) is in place and theoven light is off.IMPORTANT: The health of somebirds is extremely sensitive to the fumesgiven off during the self-cleaning cycleof any oven. Move birds to anotherwell-ventilated room.CAUTION: Never place cooking utensils or anyother items on the oven floor. There is a heatingelement beneath the oven floor. Placing items onthe oven floor may cause the oven to overheat,resulting in damage to the oven and risk ofdamage or fire to cabinets.Wipe up heavy soil on the ovenbottom.How to Set the Oven for CleaningPress the Self Clean pad for a 4-hourclean time.If a time other than 4 hours isneeded, use the number pads andenter the desired clean time.You can change the clean time to anytime between 3 hours and 5 hours,depending on how dirty your oven is.A 3-hour self-clean time is recommendedfor use when cleaning small, containedspills. A self-clean time of 4 hoursor longer is recommended for adirtier oven.Press the Start pad.The door locks automatically. The displaywill show the clean time remaining. It willnot be possible to open the oven dooruntil the temperature drops below thelock temperature and the LOCKED lightgoes off.When the LOCKED light goes off, you willbe able to open the door. The word LOCKED will flash and theoven control will signal if you set theclean cycle and forget to close theoven door. To stop a clean cycle, press theClear/Off pad. When the LOCKEDlight goes off indicating the oven hascooled below the locking temperature,you will be able to open the door.
