Always confirm that the battery pack is facingthe right way and locks when inserted.● Any setting you are currently adjusting may be cleared if you removethe battery pack while the camera is on.Inserting/Removing the Memory Card● Before using a new memory card or a card formatted in anotherdevice, you should format the card with this camera.● Recording is not possible on memory cards with a write-protect switchwhen the switch is in the locked position. Slide the switch to unlock it.● Make sure the memory card is facing the right way when you insertit. Inserting memory cards facing the wrong way may damage thecamera.Setting the Date and Time● Set the current date and time correctly if the [Date/Time] screen isdisplayed when you turn the camera on. Information you specify thisway is recorded in image properties when you shoot, and it is usedwhen you manage images by shooting date or print images showingthe date.● Unless you set the date, time, and home time zone, the [Date/Time]screen will be displayed each time you turn the camera on. Specify thecorrect information.● To set daylight saving time (1 hour ahead), choose [ ] on the date/time screen and then choose [ ] by pressing the / buttons.● You can also set the date and time by touching the desired item onthe date/time screen and then touching [ ]/[ ], followed by [ ].Similarly, you can also set your home time zone by touching [ ]/[ ] onthe time zone screen, followed by [ ].● Date/time settings can be retained for about 3 weeks by the camera’sbuilt-in date/time battery (backup battery) after the battery pack is removed.Initial PreparationsHolding the Camera● If you have raised the flash, do not rest your fingers on it.Charging the Battery Pack● Before use, charge the battery pack with the included charger. Be sureto charge the battery pack initially, because the camera is not sold withthe battery pack charged.● To protect the battery pack and keep it in optimal condition, do notcharge it continuously for more than 24 hours.● Battery charger problems may trigger a protective circuit that stopscharging and makes the charge lamp blink in orange. If this happens,disconnect the charger’s power plug from the power outlet and removethe battery pack. Attach the battery pack to the charger again and waita while before connecting the charger to a power outlet again.● The charger can be used in areas with 100 – 240 V AC power(50/60 Hz). For power outlets in a different format, use a commerciallyavailable adapter for the plug. Never use an electrical transformerdesigned for traveling, which may damage the battery pack.● For details on charging time and the number of shots and recordingtime possible with a fully charged battery pack, see “Specifications.”● Charged battery packs gradually lose their charge, even when they arenot used. Charge the battery pack on (or immediately before) the dayof use.● As a visual reminder of the charge status, attach the battery cover withvisible on a charged battery pack and concealed on an unchargedone.
