2-99Brake System Warning LightWith the ignition on, the brake system warning lightwill flash when you set the parking brake. The light willflash if the parking brake doesn’t release fully. If youtry to drive with the parking brake engaged, a chimewill sound when the vehicle speed is greater than3 mph (5 km/h).Your vehicle’s hydraulic brake system is divided intotwo parts. If one part isn’t working, the other part canstill work and stop you. For good braking, though,you need both parts working well.If the warning light comes on, there could be a brakeproblem. Have your brake system inspected right away.United States CanadaThis light should come on briefly when you turn theignition key to RUN. If it doesn’t come on then,have it fixed so it will be ready to warn you if there’sa problem.If the light comes on while you are driving, pull off theroad and stop carefully. You may notice that the pedal isharder to push. Or, the pedal may go closer to the floor.It may take longer to stop. If the light is still on, have thevehicle towed for service.
