How can I find out whetherthis will affect my airbag system?A: Changing or moving any parts of the front seats,safety belts, the airbag sensing and diagnosticmodule (located under the center console), or theinside rearview mirror can affect the operation ofthe airbag system. See Customer Satisfaction Procedure onpage 7-2.Restraint System CheckChecking the Restraint SystemsNow and then, make sure the safety belt reminder lightand all your belts, buckles, latch plates, retractors andanchorages are working properly. Look for any otherloose or damaged safety belt system parts. If you seeanything that might keep a safety belt system from doingits job, have it repaired.Torn or frayed safety belts may not protect you in acrash. They can rip apart under impact forces. If a beltis torn or frayed, get a new one right away.Also look for any opened or broken airbag covers, andhave them repaired or replaced. (The airbag systemdoes not need regular maintenance.)Notice: If you damage the covering for the driver’sor the right front passenger’s airbag, or the airbagcovering on the driver’s and right front passenger’sseatback, or the side impact airbag covering on theceiling near the side windows, the bag may not workproperly. You may have to replace the airbag modulein the steering wheel, both the airbag module and theinstrument panel for the right front passenger’sairbag, the airbag module and seatback for thedriver’s and right front passenger’s seat-mountedside impact airbags, or side impact airbag moduleand ceiling covering for the roof-mounted sideimpact airbag.
