At Least Once a YearStarter Switch Check{CAUTION:When you are doing this inspection, the vehiclecould move suddenly. If the vehicle moves, youor others could be injured.1. Before you start, be sure you have enough roomaround the vehicle.2. Firmly apply both the parking brake and the regularbrake. See Parking Brake on page 2-33.Do not use the accelerator pedal, and be ready toturn off the engine immediately if it starts.3. On automatic transmission vehicles, try to startthe engine in each gear. The vehicle should startonly in PARK (P) or NEUTRAL (N). If the vehiclestarts in any other position, contact yourGM Goodwrench® dealer for service.On manual transmission vehicles, put the shift leverin NEUTRAL (N), push the clutch pedal downhalfway, and try to start the engine. The vehicleshould start only when the clutch pedal is pusheddown all the way to the floor. If the vehicle startswhen the clutch is not pushed all the way down,contact your GM Goodwrench® dealer for service.Automatic Transmission Shift LockControl System Check{CAUTION:When you are doing this inspection, thevehicle could move suddenly.
