To help keep fuel injectors and intake valves clean, or ifyour vehicle experiences problems due to dirty injectorsor valves, look for gasoline that is advertised asTOP TIER Detergent Gasoline. Also, your GM dealerhas additives that will help correct and prevent mostdeposit-related problems.Gasolines containing oxygenates, such as ethers andethanol, and reformulated gasolines may be availablein your area. General Motors recommends that you usethese gasolines if they comply with the specificationsdescribed earlier. However, E85 (85% ethanol) andother fuels containing more than 10% ethanol mustnot be used in vehicles that were not designed forthose fuels.Notice: Your vehicle was not designed for fuel thatcontains methanol. Do not use fuel containingmethanol. It can corrode metal parts in your fuelsystem and also damage the plastic and rubberparts. That damage would not be covered underyour warranty. Some gasolines that are not reformulated forlow emissions may contain an octane-enhancingadditive called methylcyclopentadienyl manganesetricarbonyl (MMT); ask the attendant whereyou buy gasoline whether the fuel contains MMT.General Motors recommends against the use of suchgasolines. Fuels containing MMT can reduce the life ofspark plugs and the performance of the emissioncontrol system may be affected. The malfunctionindicator lamp may turn on. If this occurs, return to yourauthorized GM dealer for service.Fuels in Foreign CountriesIf you plan on driving in another country outside theUnited States or Canada, the proper fuel may be hardto find.
