FeaturesSystem FeaturesStrata DK Feature Description 5/99 49Strata DK14 and DK40i systems support the E911 feature through a standard telephone port to anexternal, third party system. The third-party E911 adjunct system provides translation andsignaling of the correct CESID location information to the 911 PSAP.The Strata DK424 system supports the E911 enhanced locator service through either externaladjunct equipment or the CAMA Trunk Interface Unit (RMCS). The RMCS is a special CO linecard installed in a card slot. A system will support up to four trunks. Excess calls will route asstandard 911 calls over local trunks. The CAMA card solution provides internal notification. When a 911 call is connected to thePSAP, the Strata DK will ring designated stations and attendant consoles and present CESIDinformation in the displays. When a notified station answers the call, a three-way conference isestablished between it, the calling party and the PSAP. The SMDR port generates two call records:one at the beginning of the call and one at its termination.Note The FCC is in the process of defining national standards for E911 compatibility, but thereis no official due date. At present both legal and technical requirements vary significantlyby state and readers are advised to contact local emergency service providers andtelephone companies for detailed requirements.DK14 and DK40i OperationStrata DK14 and DK40i systems support E911 operation by forwarding 911 calls and 9+911 callsto designated standard ports to interface with external, third-party, translation equipment. Thesystems provide up to two standard telephone ports for this purpose. The external interfaceconnects a standard telephone port to a CAMA trunk and provides multi-frequency (MF) signalingand translates the DN from the Strata DK to CESID.The interface between the third-party adjunct equipment and the E911 tandem CO must usespecial CAMA trunks. These specialized trunks are ordered through the special ordering desk ofyour local phone company.DK424 OperationIn addition to the external solution, the Strata DK424 system supports the E911 service through theCAMA Trunk Interface Unit (RMCU/RMCS), a special CO line installed in a card slot. TheCAMA Trunk Interface Unit (RMCU) supports two CAMA Trunk Subassemblies (RCMS) thatsupport two CAMA trunks each. Software in the DK424 performs the CESID translation andsignaling.Adjunct Equipment SuppliersTwo companies have been identified that supply the E911 adjunct translation systems -Proctor andAssociates, Redmond, WA (800) 824-9719; and Telident, Inc., Minneapolis, MN (800) 536-4911.Information regarding the E911 adjunct interface equipment can be found in the Strata DKInstallation and Maintenance Manual.BenefitsEnables the Strata DK to conform to most regulatory environments. The agency responding to the911 call gets location information that makes it easier for them to find the right location within thefacility. This provides faster emergency service to those needing it.
