Also known as a “TFT display,” in its simplestform there is one thin film transistor (TFT) for each cell. Thistype of display works well with computers because of itsshallow depth and high-quality color. Active-matrix displaysare viewable from wider angles than most passive-matrixdisplays.adapter—A device that provides a compatible connectionbetween two units. For example, the computer’s internaldisplay adapter receives information from the software andtranslates it into images on the screen. An adapter can takea number of forms, from a microprocessor to a simpleconnector. An intelligent adapter (one that is capable ofdoing some processing) may also be called a controller.Alternating Current (AC)—The type of power usuallysupplied to residential and commercial wall outlets. ACreverses its direction at regular intervals. CompareDirectCurrent (DC).application—A computer program that you use to performtasks of a specific type. Applications include wordprocessors, spreadsheets, and database managementsystems. See alsoprogram.
