113If Something Goes WrongProblems when you turn on the computerThe computer displays the WARNING RESUMEFAILURE/ Windows Error Recovery – Windows did not shut downsuccessfully message.To continue, select Start Windows normally. This canhappen if the computer was put into Sleep mode and thebattery has discharged. If you performed a shutdown beforethis message was displayed, a program or driver may haveprevented Windows ® from shutting down.Data stored in the computer’s memory has been lost. Datastored in the computer’s internal storage drive may not beaffected.Always save your data even when you are using Sleepmode. If your battery fully discharges, information that hasnot been saved will be lost. Your computer can beconfigured to warn you when the battery is running low see“What to do when the main battery runs low” on page 79.If you are running on battery power, it is recommended thatyou do not leave the computer in Sleep mode for longperiods of time.To charge the battery, leave the computer plugged into a livewall outlet for several hours. For more information see“Charging the main battery” on page 75.The AC power light is blinking.If the AC power light is blinking, try the following steps:1 Connect the AC adaptor to a different power outlet,preferably in a different room. If the computer startsnormally, there may be a problem with the AC outletitself, or the voltage level available from it.2 Verify that the AC adaptor is the correct unit for yourcomputer model. The computer may not be able to startfrom an AC adaptor that is rated for less current(amperage) than the computer requires, even if the ratedvoltage is correct, and the plug fits correctly in the DC-INsocket. The labels on the bottom of the computer andthe AC adaptor show the specifications for voltage (“V”)and current (“A”) for each device. The voltage level mustmatch exactly. The amperage rating of the AC adaptormust be equal to or greater than that required by thecomputer.
