117Settings and AdjustmentsAs you record, erase and edit recordingsrepeatedly, the HDD file system graduallybecomes fragmented. To ‘clean up’ all thefragmented files, optimise the HDDperiodically. When the HDD needsoptimising, a message recommendingoptimisation will appear automatically.To cancel optimisation, press ENTER. TheHDD will be partly optimised.b Notes• It will take about eight hours to optimise theHDD. During optimisation, other operations,such as recording or playback, cannot beperformed.• You cannot optimise the HDD when the HDDdisc space is insufficient for optimising. Erasetitles to open up disc space (page 76).You can format the HDD and resolve theproblem when the hard disk error occurred.“Format HDD.” can be selected only whenthe hard disk needs formatting.
