SECTION FOUR - Service/MaintenancePage 64 961/962 INSTALLATION MANUAL Revision ASaving and restoring a 961/962 databaseYou can easily save, or backup, your 961/962’s entire database ofuser-defined waypoints and routes as well as your user preferences, toeither floppy or zip disks. (User preferences are the display, navigation, chart, receiver, and port-setup features of your 961/962.) The 961/962 issold with a standard 1.44-MB floppy disk drive. If you want a largercapacity, removable storage disk drive, you must order the 100-MB zipdrive to replace the standard floppy drive. After saving, you can then restore these databases back to the same 961/962. Why save and restore? One, you may want to keep a separate set ofwaypoints and routes for one cruising area and another set of waypointsand routes for another cruising area, and so forth, so that you don’t haveto sort through one large database of waypoints and routes to select theones you want (even though the 961/962’s search function is alwaysquick and easy). Two, if you ever have to return the 961/962 to thefactory for service, it’s a good idea to have a separate copy of yourwaypoints, routes, and user preferences from the system’s hard drive, since it’s possible that this information may be lost during repair.A high-density IBM formatted floppy disk always has enough space tostore your backed-up databases (a zip disk also has enough space). If youreceive the message “Unable to copy data to the removable disk,” the diskcould be write-protected: To change the write-protection status of afloppy disk, use the tip of a pen to switch the position of the small squareon the outer corner of the disk.Saving a databaseTo save the waypoint and route or user preference databases to a disk:1. This data can’tbe saved to either type of disk as described above.
