VISTA-128BPT/VISTA-250BPT Installation and Setup Guide7-2Getting On-Line with a Control PanelAt the protected premises, the control panel must beconnected to the existing telephone line (refer toSECTION 3: Installing the Control). No programmingof the panel is required before downloading to an initialinstallation. When establishing a connection between the computerand the control panel, the following occurs:Stage What Happens1 The computer calls up the control panel.(The phone number for each customer mustbe entered into the customer’s account fileon the computer.)2 The control panel answers the phone call atthe pre-programmed ring count and executesa handshake with the computer.3 The computer sends a request for callback tothe control, unless callback is not required.4 The panel acknowledges the request andhangs up. During the next few seconds, thecontrol processes the request, making surecertain encrypted information received fromthe computer matches its own memory.5 Upon a successful match, the control panelseizes the phone line and calls the computerback, unless callback is not required. (Thephone number to which the computer’smodem is connected must be programmedinto the control field ∗35.)6 The computer answers, usually by thesecond ring, and executes a handshake withthe panel.7 The panel then sends other defaultinformation to the computer. If thisinformation matches the computer’sinformation, a successful link is established. The system is now “on-line” with thecomputer.• Alarms and Trouble responses and reportsare disabled during actual uploading ordownloading sessions. If you are on-line,but not actively uploading or downloading, all alarms report immediately. All otherreports are delayed until you complete thesession.• The keypads remain active when on-linewith a control, but are inactive duringactual uploading or downloading sessions. To download a control without programming anyinformation, perform the following steps:Step Action1 Enter the Installer Code + [#] + [5]. Thepanel temporarily enables a ring count of 5and sets the Download Callback option to “1”(callback not required).2 From the computer, call the panel using thedownloader software set to “FirstCommunication” Mode. The downloader establishes a session with nocallback. The panel information can then bedownloaded.On-Line Control FunctionsThe following functions can be performed while on-linewith a control panel (see field ∗37):• Arm the system in the AWAY Mode; disarm thesystem• Bypass a zone• Force the system to accept a new programdownload• Shut down communication (dialer) functions (fornonpayment of monitoring fees in an ownedsystem)• Shut down all security system functions (fornonpayment for a leased system)• Inhibit local keypad programming (preventstakeover of your accounts)• Leave a message for customerNOTE: Messages sent to the control panel from thedownloader will be viewable at ALL partitions.• Command the system to upload a copy of itsresident program to the office• Read: arming status, AC power status, list offaulted zones, list of bypassed zones, 1000 eventlog, list of zones currently in alarm, list of zonescurrently in trouble, and ECP equipment list• Set the real-time clockTelco HandoffTelco handoff is another method of getting on-line with the downloader.
