154 www.gateway.comChapter 5: Using the BIOS Setup UtilityOpening the BIOS Setup utilityThe BIOS Setup utility stores basic settings for your server. These settings include basichardware configuration, resource settings, and password security. These settings are storedand saved even when the power is off.To open the BIOS Setup utility:1 Restart your server.2 At the Gateway Logo screen, press any key to access the System Options menu. TheSystem Options menu opens.3 Select the BIOS Setup Utility, then press E NTER. The BIOS Setup utility opens.When you select menu items, the Item Specific Help box on the right side of the screendisplays specific information about the selection. The command bar across the bottomof the screen shows the keys you press to access help, navigate through the menus,and perform other tasks.4 Select one of these menus (for a complete list of menu and sub-menu options, see“BIOS Settings” on page 235):■ Main gives you access to basic information and settings related to your server’shardware and configuration.■ Processor gives you access to information and settings related to your server’sprocessors.■ Memory gives you access to information and settings related to your server’smemory configurations.■ Devices gives you access to information and settings related to your server’s built-indevices.■ Server Management gives you access to settings for system management, consoleredirection, event log configuration, and fault-resilient boot settings.■ Security gives you access to settings related to system access passwords and securityoptions. For more information, see “Server security” on page 39.■ Save, Restore, and Exit gives you access to options for closing the BIOS Setup utility.Caution The options in the BIOS Setup utility have been set at the factory foroptimal performance. Changes to these settings will affect theperformance of your server.Before changing any settings, write them down in case you need torestore them later. You can record the settings on a printout of “BIOSSettings” on page 235.
