In longerexposures to overcooking, the food _]and cookware could i_dte.Follow these guidelines:Use microwave-safe plastics only anduse them in strict compliance xdththe cookware manufacturer'srecommendations.Do not microwave empty containers.Do not permit children to useplastic cookware xdthout completesuper_,ision.ARCINGIf you see arcing, press the CLEAR/OFFpad and correct the problem.Arcing is the microwave term for sparks in theoven. Arcing is caused by:Metal or foil touching the side of the oven.Foil not molded to Ik_od (upturned edgesact like anmnnas).Metal, such as twist-ties, poult_ T pins orgold-rimmed dishes, in the microwave.Recycled paper towels containing smallmetal pieces being used in the microwave.SUPERHEATEDWATERMicrowaved water and other liquids do not always bubble when they reach the boiling point.They can actually get superheated and not bubble at all.Superheated liquid xdll bubble up out of thecup when it is moved or when somethinglike a spoon or tea bag is put into it.To prevent this flom happening and causingin,jury, do not heat any liquid fk_rmore than9 minutes per cup.After heating, let the cup stand in themicrowave for 30 seconds befk_re mox,ing itor putting anything into it.Spontaneous boilingUnder certain special circumstances, liquidsmay start to boil during or shortly after removalfrom the microwave oven.To prevent burns flom splashing liquid, werecommend the f_llo_dng bef_re remox,ingthe container from the oven:Allow the container to stand in the ovenfor 30 to 40 seconds _ter the oven hasshut oreDo not boil liquids in narrow-neckedcontainers such as soft drink bottles, wineflasks and especially narrow-necked cot_eecups.
