(Sears), the California Air Resources Board (CARB)and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA)Emission Control System Warranty Statement (Owner's Defect Warranty Rights and Obligations)EMISSIONCONTROLWARRANTYCOVERAGEISAPPLICABLETO CERTI- YEAR 1997AND LATERENGINESWHICHARE PURCHASEDAND USEDFlED ENGINESPURCHASEDIN CALIFORNIAIN 1995ANDTHEREAF- ELSEWHEREINTHE UNITEDSTATES(ANDAFTERJANUARY1,2001 INTER,WHICHARE USEDIN CALIFORNIA,ANDTO CERTIFIEDMODEL CANADA).California and United States Emission Control Defects Warranty StatementThe CaliforniaAir ResourcesBoard(CARB),U.S.EPAandSearsare pleasedto explainthe EmissionControlSystemWarrantyon your modelyear2000 andlatersmalloff-roadengine(SORE).In California,newsmall off-roadenginesmustbe designed,builtand equippedto meetthe State'sstringentanti-smogstandards.Elsewhereinthe UnitedStates, newnon-road,spark-ignitionenginescertifiedfor modelyear 1997and latermustmeetsimilar standardssetforth bythe U.S.EPA.Sears mustwarrantthe emissioncontrol systemon yourenginefor the periodsof time listedbelow,providedtherehas beenno abuse,neglector impropermaintenanceof your smalloff-roadengine.Youremis-sion controlsystemincludespartssuch as the carburetor,air cleaner,ignitionsystem,mufflerand catalyticconverter.Also includedmay be connectorsandotheremissionrelatedassemblies.Wherea warrantableconditionexists,Searswill repairyour smalloff-roadengine at no cost to you includingdiagnosis,partsand labor.Sears Emission Control Defects Warranty CoverageSmalloff-roadenginesarewarrantedrelativeto emissioncontrol partsdefectsfora periodof oneyear,subjectto provisionsset forth below.Ifany coveredOwner's WarrantyAsthe smalloff-roadengineowner,you are responsiblefor the performanceofthe requiredmaintenancelistedinyour Operatingand MaintenanceInstruc-tions.Sears recommendsthatyou retain all your receiptscoveringmaintenanceon yoursmall off-roadengine,but Searscannot denywarrantysolelyforthelackof receiptsor for yourfailureto ensurethe performanceof all scheduledmaintenance.Asthe smalloff-roadengineowner,you shouldhoweverbeawarethat Sears maydenyyou warrantycoverageif your smalloff-roadengineor a part hasfailed dueto abuse,neglect,impropermaintenanceor unap-part onyour engineis defective,the part will be repairedor replacedbySears.Responsibilitiesprovedmodifications.Youare responsiblefor presentingyour smalloff-roadengineto an AuthorizedSearsService Dealeras soonas a problemexists.Theundisputedwarrantyrepairsshouldbe completedina reasonableamountoftime,not to exceed30 days.Ifyou haveany questionsregardingyourwarrantyrightsand responsibilities,you shouldcontacta SearsServiceRepresentativeat 1--800--469--4663.Theemissionwarrantyis a defectswarranty.Defectsarejudgedon normalengineperformance.Thewarrantyis not relatedto an in-useemissiontest.Sears Emission Control Defects Warranty ProvisionsThefollowingarespecificprovisionsrelativetoyourEmissionControlDefectsWarrantyCoverage.It isin additionto theSearsenginewarrantyfornon-regulatedenginesfound in the OperatingandMaintenanceInstructions.1. WarrantedPartsCoverageunderthis warrantyextendsonly to the parts listed below(theemissioncontrol systemsparts)to the extentthese parts werepresentonthe engine purchased.a. FuelMetering System• Coldstart enrichmentsystem• Carburetorand internalparts• FuelPumpb. Airlnduction System• Air cleaner• Intakemanifoldc. IgnitionSystem• Sparkplug(s)• Magnetoignitionsystemd. CatalystSystem• Catalyticconverter• Exhaustmanifold• Air injectionsystemor pulsevalvee. MiscellaneousItemsUsed inAboveSystems• Vacuum,temperature,position,time sensitive valvesandswitches• Connectorsand assemblies2. Lengthof CoverageSearswarrantsto the initialownerand eachsubsequentpurchaserthatthe WarrantedParts shall befree from defectsin materialsandworkman-ship whichcausedthe failureof the WarrantedPartsfor a periodof oneyearfrom the datethe engineis deliveredto a retailpurchaser.3. NoChargeRepairor replacementof any WarrantedPartwill be performedat nochargeto the owner,includingdiagnosticlabor whichleads to thedeterminationthata WarrantedPartis defective,if the diagnosticwork isperformedat an AuthorizedSears ServiceDealer.For emissionswarrantyservicecontact your nearestAuthorizedSears ServiceDealeras listed inthe "YellowPages"under"Engines,Gasoline,""GasolineEngines,""LawnMowers,"or similarcategory.4. Claimsand CoverageExclusionsWarrantyclaimsshall be filed in accordancewiththe provisionsoftheSears EngineWarrantyPolicy.Warrantycoverageshall be excludedforfailures of WarrantedPartswhichare not originalSears parts or becauseof abuse, neglector impropermaintenanceas setforth in the SearsEngineWarrantyPolicy.Searsis not liable to coverfailuresof WarrantedPartscausedby the useof add-on, non-original,or modifiedparts.5. MaintenanceAny WarrantedPartwhich is not scheduledfor replacementas requiredmaintenanceor which is scheduledonly for regularinspectionto the effectof "repairor replaceas necessary"shall be warrantedas to defectsfor thewarrantyperiod.Any WarrantedPartwhich is scheduledfor replacementas requiredmaintenanceshallbe warrantedasto defectsonly for theperiodof time up to the first scheduledreplacementforthat part. Anyreplacementpart that is equivalentin performanceand durabilitymaybe usedin the performanceof any maintenanceor repairs.The ownerisresponsibleforthe performanceof all requiredmaintenance,as definedinthe SearsOperating andMaintenanceInstructions.6. ConsequentialCoverageCoveragehereundershallextend to the failure of any engine componentscaused bythe failure of anyWarrantedPartstill underwarranty.Inthe USAand Canada,a 24 hour hot line, 1-800-469-4663,has a menuof pre-recordedmessagesofferingyou engine maintenanceinformation.28
