12 CHAPTER 2: OVERVIEW OF THE S WITCH 4005Minimum Requirementsfor Normal OperationThe following minimum components are required for normal operation of theSwitch 4005: Two fan trays (four fans total) One 300 Watt AC power supply One Switch Fabric Management Module (SFMM) operating with systemsoftware The number and type of interface modules that are appropriate for yournetwork connectivity needs Blank faceplates that cover all empty module slots and the second powersupply bay (if a second power supply is not installed).Module Slots in theChassisYou insert modules vertically into the chassis slots so that the slot number showsthrough a hole in the module faceplate. As shown in Figure 1, the slots forinterface modules are numbered from left to right, starting with number 1 andcontinuing to 12. The two center slots are numbered M1 and M2 because theyexist solely to contain Switch Fabric Management Modules (SFMMs).
