SECTION TWO - Installation961/962 INSTALLATION MANUAL Revision A Page 9Northstar-supplied yoke mounting kit usually allows for a quicker andless expensive installation than a flush-mount installation.Regardless of the type of mount, here are a few helpful hints about whereto mount the control head. Choose the mounting locationcarefully—before any drilling or cutting takes place. Choose a locationthat:• is convenient, accessible, and within comfortable reach• gives you easy access to the function keys• is where you can clearly see the display screen from your normalvantage point when navigating• for best display contrast, is viewed from below, looking up at thedisplay screen• provides a reasonably direct path for running the required electricalcables• has minimal glare from windows or other bright objects (you’ll wantto make the screen as visible as possible, even though the controlhead has a high-contrast, anti-reflective LCD screen that’s speciallycoated and readable in direct sunlight)• is well-ventilated, if you’re flush-mounting the head, since poorventilation may cause overheating and result in potentialbacklighting problemsYoke mountingFor yoke mounts, leave ample room—usually two inches—all around thesides and top of the head to avoid crowding. Also, allow a clearance of atleast 2½ inches in the rear for the cables and connectors. For therecommended yoke-mount installation dimensions (in inches), see“Figure 1: 961/962 control head yoke-mount dimensions (side)” below, and “Figure 2: 961/962 control head yoke-mount dimensions (front)”below. Before drilling holes, rotate the head to the desired angle to ensure properclearance for cables and operations.
