1 Calibration Procedures18 Keysight U1281A/U1282A Service GuideCalibration OverviewThis manual contains procedures to verify the U1281A/U1282A handheld digitalmultimeter performance and to perform adjustments (calibration). Theperformance test procedures allow you to verify that the multimeter is operatingwithin its published specifications. The adjustment procedures ensure that themultimeter remains within its specifications until the next calibration.Closed-case calibrationThe multimeter features closed-case electronic calibration. In other words, nointernal mechanical adjustments are required. The multimeter calculatescorrection factors based upon the input reference value you set. The newcorrection factors are stored in the nonvolatile memory until the next calibrationadjustment is performed. The nonvolatile EEPROM calibration memory is retainedeven when the power is switched off.Keysight calibration servicesWhen your multimeter is due for calibration, contact your local Keysight ServiceCenter to enquire about recalibration services.Calibration intervalA 1-year interval is adequate for most applications. Accuracy specifications arewarranted only if adjustment is made at regular calibration intervals. A 1-yearcalibration cycle is suggested for operation at room temperature. The calibrationcycle is 1.5 times of accuracy for 2 years except for capacitance, frequency, dutycycle and pulse width measurements, and square-wave output. Keysight does notrecommend extending calibration intervals beyond 2 years for any application.NOTE Ensure that you have read the “Test Considerations” on page 26 beforecalibrating the multimeter.
