Therefore, use lithium batterieswhen operating the device in below freezingconditions.Maximizing the Battery LifeYou can do several things to extend the life ofthe batteries.• Reduce the backlight brightness (page26).• Reduce the backlight timeout (page 30).• Use battery save mode (page 38).• Decrease the map drawing speed (page31).• Exit the camera application when you arenot taking photos.Turning On Battery Save ModeYou can use battery save mode to prolongthe battery life.Select Setup > Display > BatterySave > On.In battery save mode, the screen shuts offwhen the backlight times out. You can selectto turn on the screen, and you can doubletap to view the status page.Saving Energy While Charging theDeviceYou can turn off the device display and allother features while charging.1 Connect your device to an external powersource. The remaining battery capacityappears.2 Hold the power key for 4 to 5 seconds.The display turns off, and the device goesinto a low power, battery charging mode.3 Charge the device completely.Long-Term StorageWhen you do not plan to use the device forseveral months, remove the batteries.
