B-701964-00 Rev. C Service and Repair 5-19Companion 1000/T Liquid Oxygen System Technical Manual5.11 WARMING COIL (COMPANION 1000)The warming coil on the Companion 1000 Portable is a heat exchanger that transfersheat from the surrounding atmosphere to the fluid contents inside the coil. The purposeof the warming coil on the Companion 1000 is to vaporize the liquid oxygen and warmthe resulting gaseous oxygen entering the breathing circuitry. The warming coil on theCompanion 1000 is not field serviceable. Replace the entire coil as a means of service.5.11.1 RemovalRefer to Figures 6-1 or 6-2, 6-4, and 6-7 to identify parts with bold number references.1. Remove the side covers according to the side cover removal procedure (Section5.2.1).2. Use side-cut pliers to cut the two wire ties 22 from the warming coil.3. Use a 5/8-in. open-end wrench on the vent valve 10 body hex flats to hold the bodystationary. Use a 11/16-in. open-end wrench to loosen the jam nut 3 that holds thevent valve to the mounting bracket.4. Use a 9/16-in. open-end wrench to disconnect the 1/4-in. tube nut 6 where the venttube 26 connects to the manifold 7. Remove the vent valve and tube assembly(Figure 5-28).Figure 5-285. Use a 1/2-in. open-end wrench to disconnect the 3/16-in. tube nut 27 where thewarming coil 32 connects to the flow control valve 30.6. Use a 1/2-in. open-end wrench to disconnect the 3/16-in. tube nut 27 where thewarming coil connects to the manifold 7. Remove the warming coil (Figure 5-29).Some older models may have a different warming coil from the currentwarming coil shown in Figure 6-1. The "old" style coil is no longer available. Ifyou are replacing an "old" style warming coil, you must also replace theprimary relief circuit tube.
