As part of the IPprotocol suite, SNMP is the standard management protocol formultivendor networks. SNMP supports transaction-based queries so thatthe protocol can format messages and transmit information betweenreporting devices and data-collection programs. In order for SNMP requests to reach the Switch 4007, you must connect acable from the Ethernet port on the Management Module to yournetwork infrastructure (for example, a hub or a switch). You must alsoassign an IP address to the Ethernet port. The Management Module acts as an agent in an SNMP-managedenvironment. The agent polls modules in the chassis for information, responds to SNMP requests, and generates SNMP traps. You must configure SNMP settings in two or more places: theManagement Modules and individual switching modules.
