This locks the inserterto the tibial plate (Figure 96a). Squeeze the handleof the articular surface inserter to seat the bearing(Figure 96b). Open the lever and remove the articularsurface inserter.Alternatively the bearing can be locked into thetibial plate as described above, prior to tibial plateimplantation. If PS femoral implants are used, thefemoral implant should be implanted before thetibial implant to avoid the excessive joint distractionrequired to clear the post while implanting the PSfemoral implant. If CR femoral implants are used, thetibial implant should be implanted prior to the femoralimplant to facilitate the removal of excess cementfrom the posterior aspect of the tibia, prior to femoralimplantation.Figure 96b Figure 97Figure 96aTechnique Tip: Only in vivo assembly of theultracongruent bearing is recommended becausethe design of the ultracongruent bearing precludescement removal from the PCL cutout area at thetibial baseplate/bone interface.Assemble the quick connect handle to the tibialimpactor head. Unlock collar and hold, insert quickconnect handle into tibial impactor head, releasecollar, and rotate handle until “click” is heard. Positionthe tibial plate bearing construct onto the tibia anduse the tibial impactor to impact it until fully seated(Figure 97). Thoroughly remove any excess cement ina consistent manner.Technique Tip: Do NOT impact or lever the articularsurface inserter or extractor tools when they areattached to the tibial plate as this may disrupt thefixation of the tibial plate to the bone and/or causedamage to the implant or instrument. Also, do notimpact the bearing. To remove a bearing from the baseplate, engagethe hook on the articular surface removal instrumentwith the mating slot on the front of the baseplate andsqueeze the handle to disengage the bearing from thebase plate. The articular surface removal instrumentshould not be used for provisional removal.
