41Changing the Engine Oil and FilterThe engine holds approximately 8.5 qt (8 l) of oil. Changeoil and filter after the first 50 hours, then change both every100 hours operation. However, change oil more frequentlywhen engine is operated in dusty or sandy conditions. Ifpossible, run engine just before changing oil because warmoil flows better and carries more contaminants than coldoil.1. Unlatch and raise hood and prop it open (Fig. 34). Makesure hood prop is secured in one of the mountingbrackets on hood. Unlatch and remove both side panels(Fig. 34).2. Place drain pan in line with the drain plug (Fig. 38).Clean area around drain plug.1Figure 381. Engine oil drain plug3. Remove drain plug and allow oil to drain into pan.Remove and replace oil filter (Fig. 39); refer to partscatalog for replacement number. Apply a coating of oilto the filter O-ring before installing filter. Refer to theengine manual for the filter tightening procedure.1Figure 391. Engine oil filterEngine Fuel System1. Locate the fuel filter/water separator near the fan on theleft side of engine and drain the water chamber daily(Fig. 40).2. Every 400 hours operation, or yearly, replace the filterelement in the fuel filter/water separator (Fig. 40) anddrain water from the fuel tank. Apply clean fuel to thefilter O-ring.
