19Checking the Cooling SystemThe cooling system is filled with a 50/50 solution of waterand permanent ethylene glycol anti-freeze. Check coolantlevel at beginning of each day before starting the engine.Capacity of cooling system is approximately 3.9 gal.(14.7 l).If the engine has been running, the pressurized, hot coolant can escape and cause burns.• Do not open the radiator cap when the engine isrunning.• Use a rag when opening the radiator cap, andopen the cap slowly to allow steam to escape.Caution1. Unlatch, raise and prop hood open. Make sure hoodprop is secured in one of the mounting brackets onhood.2. Check level of coolant in expansion tank (Fig. 8). Theexpansion tank must be filled to the FULL mark.12Figure 81. Expansion tank 2. Expansion tank cap3. If coolant level is low, add a 50/50 solution of water andpermanent ethylene glycol anti-freeze. Do not usealcohol/methanol base coolants or water only. Do notoverfill.4. Remove expansion tank cap and fill expansion tank tothe FULL mark.5. If adding large quantities of solution, remove radiatorcap (Fig. 9) and fill radiator until level of coolant isabove the radiator core and about 1 in. (25 mm) belowbottom of filler neck.1Figure 91. Radiator cap6. Install radiator cap and expansion tank cap.7. Close and latch the hood.Checking the Hydraulic SystemFluid1. Fluid level should be checked daily through sight glassat rear of hydraulic reservoir (Fig. 10). When oil is cold, level will be slightly below center, but should be in themiddle of the sight glass when the oil is warm.12Figure 101. Hydraulic oil level sightglass2. Reservoir fill cap |
