Replacing the Fuel FilterCanisterReplace the filter canister after every 400 hoursof operation.1. Clean the area where the filter canister mounts(Figure 55).2. Remove the filter canister and clean themounting surface (Figure 55).3. Lubricate the gasket on the new filter canisterwith clean oil.4. Install the filter canister by hand until thegasket contacts the mounting surface, thenrotate it an additional 1/2 turn (Figure 55).Replacing the Fuel PrelterReplace the fuel prefilter after every 400 operatinghours or yearly, whichever occurs first.1. Remove the screw securing the prefilter to theframe rail.2. Clamp both fuel lines that connect to the fuelprefilter so that the fuel cannot drain when youremove the lines.3. Loosen the hose clamps at both ends ofthe prefilter and pull the fuel lines off of it(Figure 56).Figure 561. Fuel prelter 2. Hose clamps4. Slide the hose clamps onto ends of the fuellines.5. Push the fuel lines onto the new prefilter andsecure them with the hose clamps (Figure 56).Important: Ensure that the arrow onthe side of the prefilter points toward theinjection pump.Bleeding Air from the FuelInjectorsNote: This procedure should be used only if thefuel system has been purged of air through normalpriming procedures and the engine will not start;refer to Bleeding the Fuel System in Operation, page 26.1. Loosen the pipe connection to the No. 1nozzle and holder assembly (Figure 57).Figure 571. Fuel injector nozzle and holder assemblies2. Move the throttle to the Fast position.3. Turn the key in the key switch to the Startposition and watch the fuel flow around theconnector. When you observe a solid flow offuel, turn the key to the Off position.4. Tighten the pipe connector securely.5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 on the remainingnozzles.Electrical SystemMaintenanceImportant: Before welding on the machine, disconnect both cables from the battery, bothwire harness plugs from the electronic controlunit, and the terminal connector from thealternator to prevent damage to the electricalsystem.47
