Ifanoutsideantennaisconnectedtothetelevisionequipment,besuretheantennasystemisgroundedsoastoprovidesomeprotectionagainstvoltagesurgesandbuiltupstaticcharges.IntheU.S.Section810oftheNationalElectricalCodeandinCanadaPart1oftheCanadianElectricalCodeprovidesinformationwithrespecttopropergroundingofthemastandsupportingstructure,groundingofthe lead-inwireto anantennadischargeunit,sizeof groundingconductors,locationofantenna-dischargeunit,connectiontogroundingelectrodes,andrequirementsforthegroundingelectrode.SeeFigure.15. Foraddedprotectionforthistelevisionreceiverduringa lightningstorm,orwhenitis leftunattendedandunusedforlongperiodsoftime,unplugitfromthewalloutletanddisconnecttheantenna.Thiswillpreventdamagetothereceiverduetolightningandpower-linesurges.16.Anoutsideantennasystemshouldnotbelocatedinthevicinityofoverheadpowerlinesor otherelectriclightorpowercircuits,or whereit canfallintosuchpowerlinesor circuits.Wheninstallinganoutsideantennasystemextremecareshouldbetakento keepfromtouchingsuchpowerlinesor circuitsascontactwiththemmightbefatal.17. Unplugthistelevisionreceiverfromthewalloutlet,andreferservicingtoqualifiedservicepersonnelunderthefollowingconditions:a. Whenthepowercordor plugis damagedor frayed.b. If liquidhasbeenspilledintothetelevisionreceiver.c. If thetelevisionreceiverhasbeenexposedtorainor water.d. Ifthetelevisionreceiverdoesnotoperatenormallybyfollowingtheoperatinginstructions.Adjustonlythosecontrolsthatarecoveredbytheoperatinginstructionsasimproperadjustmentofothercontrolsmayresultindamageandwilloftenrequireextensiveworkby a qualifiedtechnicianto restorethetelevisionreceiverto normaloperation.e.
