This ensures continuous availability of theservice, allows for comprehensive testing on the Upgrade Side, and prevents anyconflicts associated with two instances of a service running at the same time.• When an upgrade is aborted, if the system is in merge mode, the console shutsdown the Upgrade Side (which automatically stops the service) and restarts theProduction Side (which automatically starts the service based on its defaultStartup Type). This returns the system to its previous, fault-tolerant state.N O T E S1. Standard operating system services do not requirecontrol during the Active Upgrade process. Selectonly services that pertain to your critical applications(for example, Exchange, SQL, and IIS).2. The Active Upgrade console never changes thedefault Startup Type for a service on the ProductionSide. Maintaining the default Startup Type on theProduction Side ensures that a service is always ableto restart on the Production Side if the upgradeprocess is aborted or fails.
