Lenovo System x PDU Technical Reference
.Environmental Monitoring Probe for Monitored PDUsFigure 112 displays the Environmental Monitoring Probe (EMP) which connects to thePDU. Some Monitored PDUs ship standard with the probe, and for others it can beordered optionally.Although the EMP device needs to be connected to a monitored PDU to function, theEMP device is not a necessity for the monitored PDU to function. The monitored PDUshave their own internal sensors to report on temperature and humidity values of thePDU.The EMPs purpose is to report on local environmental temperature and humidity at itsinstalled location. For example, if the EMP device is installed at the top of a rack, itwill report on the temperature and humidity values at that location. The EMP reports the local temperature and humidity values to management toolssuch as Lenovo Systems Director Active Energy Manager (AEM) or to the PDU webinterface. The following image shows an example of the EMP connected to an LenovoMonitored PDU communication port via a CAT5 cable.176Figure 113: EMP connection example to PDUFigure 112: The EMP |
