14Figure 7-11: spindle lock and face plate7.13 Face plate: Installing/removing1. Disconnect lathe from power source.2. Mount face plate to your workpiece.3. Engage spindle lock.4. Install face plate onto threads of headstockspindle and rotate clockwise as far as it will go.5. Tighten both set screws in face plate. Faceplate is now ready for turning.Make certain set screws inface plate are tight before reversing lathespindle rotation.6. To remove face plate, engage spindle lock.Loosen both set screws in face plate, andturn face plate counterclockwise with faceplate wrench to loosen.7.14 Checking center alignmentWhen headstock is returned from outboardposition, the alignment between centers should bechecked.1. Lock headstock in normal spindle turningposition.2. Slide tailstock toward headstock until centersalmost touch (see Figure 7-12). Lock tailstockin position.Figure 7-12: center alignment3. View the center points from top and side tomake sure they align.4. If centers do not align, unlock headstock andpivot it slightly. There should be enough “play”in headstock to adjust for this alignment. Lockheadstock when finished.7.15 Speed Change (EVS model only)See Figure 7-13.1. Disconnect lathe from power source.2. To change speed range, open access door onheadstock.3. Loosen pivot lock handle (A, Figure 7-13) andlift up tension handle (B) to raise motor.Tighten pivot lock handle (A) to hold motor inraised position.4. There should be sufficient slack in the belt toreposition it to the other steps on the sheaves. The label on access door shows required beltposition (also shown in Figure 7-14).5. Loosen pivot lock handle (A) and lower motorto tension belt. Be sure that Poly-V grooves ofbelt seat properly in corresponding groove ofsheave. Do not over-tension; a very lightpressure on tension handle (B) is adequate toprevent belt slippage.6. Tighten pivot lock handle (A) and close accessdoor.Figure 7-13: speed range adjustmentFigure 7-14
