34With the receiver, you can receive the following types of RDSsignals:PS (Program Service): Shows commonly known stationnames.PTY (Program Type): Shows types of broadcastprograms.RT (Radio Text): Shows text messages the stationsends.Enhanced Other Networks: See page 37.NOTES• RDS is not available for AM (MW) broadcasts.• RDS may not operate correctly if the station tuned is nottransmitting RDS signal properly or if the signal strength isweak.What information can RDS signals provide?You can see the RDS signals the station sends on the display.Press DISPLAY while listening to an FM station.• Each time you press the button, the display changes to showthe following information:PS (Program Service):While searching, “PS” appears and then the station names willbe displayed. “NO PS” appears if no signal is sent.PTY (Program Type):While searching, “PTY” appears and then the type of thebroadcast program will be displayed. “NO PTY” appears if nosignal is sent.RT (Radio Text):While searching, “RT” appears and then text messages thestation sends will be displayed. “NO RT” appears if no signal issent.Frequency:Station frequency (non-RDS service).About characters shown on the displayWhen the display shows PS, PTY, or RT signals, the followingcharacters are used:• The display cannot show accented letters, “A” for instance, maystand for accented “A’s” like “Å, Ä, Ã, Á, À, Â, å, ä, ã, á, à, andâ.”NOTEIf searching finishes at once, “PS,” “PTY,” and “RT” will not appearon the display.Using the Radio Data System (RDS)to receive FM stationsOnly the buttons on the remote control are used for RDSoperations.When operating the receiver using the remote control,set the mode selector to “AUDIO/TV/VCR/STB.”RDS allows FM stations to send an additional signal along withtheir regular program signals. For example, the stations send theirstation names, as well as information about what type of programthey broadcast, such as sports or music, etc.When an FM station which provides the RDS service is tuned in,the RDS indicator lights up on the display.RDS indicatorEQLPCM LLS SB RSS .
