38Connecting AV COMPULINK Supported DevicesAV COMPU LINK remote control system is asystem in which related devices areautomatically controlled when you operateone device.If you apply this system to the TV, you canhave the TV automatically perform therequired operations by operating oneexternal device. You don't have to use theTV's remoto control to turn on the TV orchange the VIDEO modes.Examples of the AVCOMPU LINK remotecontrol system operationsSimply by pressing the PLAY button on aVCR or a DVD player, you can view imagesfrom the device.Simply by inserting a pre-recorded tape (atape with the record safety tab removed) to aVCR, you can view the tape.Simply by operating the AV Control Rece-iver, you can have the TV turned on/off (instandby mode) or the VIDEO mode changedcorrectly.• The performance of the AC COMPULINK remote control system variesdepending on the connected device.See the device’s instruction manual.• When you select "TV SOUND" as theinput source with the AV ControlReceiver, there are cases where the TV'sMUTING function automatically operatesand the sound from the TV's speakers ismuted.In such cases, press the VOLUME-/+buttons or the MUTING button on theTV's remote control to cancel the MUT-ING function. You can regain the soundfrom the TV's speakers.Conditions to use the AVCOMPU LINK remotecontrol system• A device equipped with an AV COMPULINK terminal is required.• You must connect the TV and the devicewith an AV COMPU LINK cable.AV COMPU LINK cable is not suppliedwith this TV. If an AV COMPU LINK cableis unavailable, connect them with a cablewith dia. 3.5 mm (mono) male plugs atboth ends.• You must connect the device to anappropriate VIDEO terminal and set it upcorrectly. Otherwise the AV COMPU LINKremote control system will not functioncorrectly. For details, see “ Setting up theAV COMPU LINK remote controlsystem”.• The TV must be in standby mode (thePOWER lamp lighting red). If the TV’sMain power is off (the POWER lamp off),the AV COMPU LINK remote controlsystem does not function.Setting up the AV COMPULINK remote control systemCAUTION:• With some devices, the setup methoddiffers from the ones explained here.Be sure to read the device’s instructionmanual thoroughly before setting it up.1 Connect the device to the TV’sVIDEO-1 or VIDEO-2 terminal.If you want to connect a DVDplayer to the TV with a compo-nent video cable :Connect the DVD player to the TV’s VIDEO-3terminal.• For detailed connecting instructions, see"Connecting the external devices" onpage 36.Additional preparation
