Q.seriesGantner Instruments Test & Measurement GmbH 153 Introduction3.3 System descriptionThe modules in the Q.bloxx series have been developed for indus-trial measurement and testing technology, in particular for multi-channel measurements of electrical, mechanical and thermal sig-nals on engine and component test-rigs as well as for monitoringprocesses and long-term supervision. The modules A123, A124and A128 are specially designed for measurements at high volt-ages.Voltages of up to 1200 V may be present on the connectionsof the modules A123, A124 and A128.Before connecting or disconnecting cables on these mod-ules check that the cables to be connected or disconnectedare no longer live. The individual modules can be combined to form one system asrequired. You can connect up to 32 or 64 modules to one of theTest Controllers Q.gate or Q.pac and then address them from aPC or PLC via a single interface. Alternatively, it is also possibleto address single modules directly via the serial interface. On all modules the power supply, the bus interface and the inputsand outputs are electrically isolated from one another.3.3.1 Operating the modules via Q.gateYou can connect up to 16 modules to each of the two serial inter-faces (UARTs) of the Q.gate Test Controller (Fig. 3-1 and Fig. 3-2). For the direct connection on top hat rails (35 mm DIN railsaccording to DIN EN 60715) a special pluggable socket is avail-able: the Q.bloxx Extension Socket QES. This means that you canplug all 32 modules onto a DIN rail directly adjacent to oneanother. The Q.bloxx Extension Socket QES is inserted in themiddle between the sockets, the voltage supply to the secondgroup of up to 16 modules is also provided via this socket. You can communicate via Ethernet with the connected modulesfrom the Q.gate Test Controller. The maximum cable lengthbetween the measurement modules and Q.gate depends on therequired baud rate:
