This will disturb the heat circulation andresult in poor baking.A smaller sheet of foil may be used to catch aspillover by placing it on a lower rack severalinches below the food.Using the oven. GEAppliances.com7Preheating and Pan PlacementPreheat the oven if the recipe calls for it.Preheating is necessary for good results whenbaking cakes, cookies, pastries and breads.The display will show “PrE” while preheating. Whenthe oven reaches the selected temperature, the ovencontrol will beep and the display will show the oventemperature.If baking four cake layers at thesame time, place two layers onrack C and two layers on rack E.Stagger pans on the rack so oneis not directly above the other.Baking results will be better if the food iscentered in the oven as much as possible.Angel Food cake is the exception and shouldbe placed on the bottom oven rack (positionA). Follow package direction on prepackagedand frozen foods for pan placement. Pansshould not touch each other or the walls ofthe oven. If you need to use two racks, staggerthe pans so one is not directly above theother. Leave approximately 11⁄2″ betweenpans and from the front, back and sidesof oven wall.Do not place foods directly on theoven floor.How to Set the Oven for Baking or RoastingPress the BAKE pad.Press the + or – pads until the desiredtemperature is displayed.Press the START/ON pad.The oven will start automatically. The displaywill show PrE while preheating. When theoven reaches the selected temperature, theoven control will beep several times and thedisplay will show the oven temperature.To change the oven temperature during BAKE cycle,press the BAKE pad and then the + or – pads to getthe new temperature.Check food for doneness at minimumtime on recipe. Cook longer if necessary.Press the CLEAR/OFF pad when bakingis finished and then remove the foodfrom the oven.Before you begin…The racks have stop-locks, so that when placedcorrectly on the supports, they will stop beforecoming completely out, and will not tilt.When placing and removing cookware,pull the rack out to the bump on the racksupport.To remove a rack, pull it toward you, tilt thefront end up and pull it out.To replace, place the end of the rack(stop-locks) on the support, tilt up the frontand push the rack in.CAUTION: Never place cookingutensils or any other items on the oven floor. Thereis a heating element beneath the oven floor. Placingitems on the oven floor may cause the oven tooverheat, resulting in damage to the oven and riskof damage or fire to cabinets.The number of rack positions variesby model.
