14Care and cleaning of the oven.It’s a good idea to wipe the control panelafter each use. Clean with mild soap andwater or vinegar and water, rinse withclean water and polish dry with a softcloth. When cleaning, the control panelshould be at room temperature and notin direct sunlight.Do not use abrasive cleansers, strongliquid cleansers, plastic scouring pads oroven cleaners on the control panel—theywill damage the finish. A 50/50 solutionof vinegar and hot water works well.Be sure electrical power is off and all surfaces are cool before cleaning any part of the oven.How to Remove Protective Shipping Film and Packaging TapeCarefully grasp a corner of the protectiveshipping film with your fingers and slowlypeel it from the appliance surface. Donot use any sharp items to remove thefilm. Remove all of the film before usingthe appliance for the first time.To assure no damage is done to thefinish of the product, the safest way toremove the adhesive from packagingtape on new appliances is an applicationof a household liquid dishwashingdetergent. Apply with a soft cloth andallow to soak.NOTE: The adhesive must be removed from allparts. It cannot be removed if it is baked on.Oven RacksClean the oven racks with an abrasivecleanser or steel wool. After cleaning, rinse the racks with cleanwater and dry with a clean cloth.Porcelain Oven InteriorWith proper care, the porcelain enamelfinish on the inside of the oven—top,bottom, sides, back and inside of thedoor—will stay new-looking for years.Let the oven cool before cleaning. Werecommend that you wear rubber gloveswhen cleaning the oven.Soap and water will normally do thejob. Heavy spattering or spillovers mayrequire cleaning with a mild abrasivecleaner. Soap-filled steel wool padsmay also be used.Household ammonia may make thecleaning job easier. Place 1/2 cup in ashallow glass or pottery container in acold oven overnight. The ammoniafumes will help loosen the burned-ongrease and food.If necessary, you may use an oven cleaner.Follow the package directions. Do not spray oven cleaner on the electricalcontrols and switches because it could cause ashort circuit and result in sparking or fire. Do not allow a film from the cleaner to build upon the temperature sensor—it could cause theoven to heat improperly. (The sensor is locatedat the top of the oven.) Carefully wipe thesensor clean after each oven cleaning, beingcareful not to move the sensor as a change inits position could affect how the oven bakes. Do not spray any oven cleaner on the ovendoor, handles or any exterior surface of theoven, cabinets or painted surfaces. The cleanercan damage these surfaces.Do not allow food spills with ahigh sugar or acid content (such astomatoes, sauerkraut, fruit juicesor pie filling) to remain on thesurface.
