34Installation InstructionsELECTRICAL CONNECTIONSElectrical Requirements120-volt, 60 Hertz, properly grounded branch circuitprotected by a 15-amp or 20-amp circuit breaker ortime delay fuse.Extension Cord CautionsBecause of potential safety hazards associated withcertain conditions, we strongly recommend againstthe use of an extension cord. However, if you stillelect to use an extension cord, it is absolutelynecessary that it be a UL-listed, 3-wire grounding-type appliance extension cord and that the currentcarrying rating of the cord in amperes be equivalentto, or greater than, the branch circuit rating.GroundingIMPORTANT—(Please read carefully)FOR PERSONAL SAFETY, THIS APPLIANCE MUSTBE PROPERLY GROUNDED.The power cord of this appliance is equippedwith a 3-prong (grounding) plug which mates with astandard three-prong grounding wall receptacle tominimize the possibility of electric shock hazard fromthis appliance. The customer should have the wall receptacle andcircuit checked by a qualified electrician to make surethe receptacle is properly grounded.Where a standard two-prong wall receptacle isencountered, it is the personal responsibility andobligation of the customer to have it replaced with aproperly grounded three-prong wall receptacle.DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, CUT ORREMOVE THE THIRD (GROUND) PRONG FROM THEPOWER CORD.A word about GFCI’s – GFCI’s are not required orrecommended for gas range receptacles.Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI’s) aredevices that sense leakage of current in a circuit andautomatically switch off power when a thresholdleakage level is detected. These devices must bemanually reset by the consumer. The NationalElectrical Code requires the use of GFCI’s in kitchenreceptacles installed to serve countertop surfaces.Performance of the range will not be affected ifoperated on a GFCI-protected circuit but occasionalnuisance tripping of the GFCI breaker is possible.3 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS (CONT.)Usage Situations where Appliance PowerCord will be Disconnected Infrequently. An adapter may be used only on a 15-ampcircuit. Do not use an adapter on a 20-ampcircuit. Where local codes permit, aTEMPORARY CONNECTION may be made to aproperly grounded two-prong wall receptacleby the use of a UL-listed adapter, available atmost hardware stores. The larger slot in theadapter must be aligned with the larger slot inthe wall receptacle to provide proper polarity inthe connection of the power cord. When disconnecting the power cord from theadapter, always hold the adapter with one hand.If this is not done, the adapter ground terminalis very likely to break with repeated use. Shouldthis happen, DO NOT USE the appliance until aproper ground has again been established.A3Preferred MethodEnsure properground existsbefore useTemporary MethodEnsure properground and firmconnection beforeuseAlign large prongs/slotsCAUTION: Attaching the adapterground terminal to the wall receptacle coverscrew does not ground the appliance unlessthe cover screw is metal, and not insulated, and the wall receptacle is grounded throughthe house wiring. The customer should havethe circuit checked by a qualified electrician tomake sure the receptacle is properly grounded.
