First remove the centergrate and then the side grates. Gratesshould be washed regularly and, of course,after spillovers. Wash them in hot, soapywater and rinse with clean water. Aftercleaning, dry them thoroughly by puttingthem in a warm oven for a few minutes.Don’t put the grates back on the rangewhile they are wet. When replacing thegrates, be sure they are positioned securelyover the burners.Do not operate a burner for an extendedperiod of time without cookware on thegrate. The finish on the grate may chipwithout cookware to absorb the heat.To replace the grates:Place the side grates in position on thecooktop.Place the center grate on the cooktop,making sure the locking feet hookover the side grates.To get rid of burned-on food, place thegrates in a covered container. Add 1/4 cupammonia and let them soak several hoursor overnight. Wash, rinse well and dry.Although they are durable, the grateswill gradually lose their shine, regardlessof the best care you can give them. This isdue to their continual exposure to hightemperatures. You will notice this soonerwith lighter color grates.Cooktop SurfaceTo avoid damaging the porcelain enamelsurface of the cooktop and to prevent itfrom becoming dull, clean up spills rightaway. Foods with a lot of acid (tomatoes,sauerkraut, fruit juices, etc.) or foods withhigh sugar content could cause a dull spotif allowed to set.When the surface has cooled, wash andrinse. For other spills such as fat spatterings,etc., wash with soap and water once thesurface has cooled. Then rinse and polishwith a dry cloth.NOTE: Do not lift the cooktop. Lifting the cooktopcan lead to damage and improper operation ofthe range.NOTE: Do not store flammable materials inan oven or near the cooktop. Do not store oruse combustible materials, gasoline or otherflammable vapors and liquids in the vicinityof this or any other appliance.
