2 Prepare the Printer1 Before turning on the printer, open the coverand remove the protective material and tapefrom the printer as shown. The tape positionis subject to change. Write down the serialnumber located inside the printer. You willneed this to register your products.CAUTION: Be sure to remove the protectivematerial before you turn on the printer.2 Close the cover. Plug the power cord into theback of the printer and connect the other endto a power outlet. Press the POWER button.The printer will initialize. Wait until thePOWER lamp displays a steady light.NOTE: Do not connect the USB cable at thisstage.3 When the screen shown on the LCD appears,use the buttons to select a languageand then press the OK button.NOTE:• If the language you want to be displayed is notselected, refer to "An unintended language isdisplayed on the LCD" in the Direct PrintingGuide.• If you leave the printer more than five minuteswithout using any button on the operation panel,the LCD goes into sleep mode automatically.Press the OK button to turn on the LCD again.4 Pull down the paper output tray. Raise thecover. Lower the inner cover.NOTE: Put your fingers in the notches in eitherside of the paper output tray and pull down toopen it.5 The print head holder automatically moves tothe center.IMPORTANT: If the cover is left open for morethan ten minutes, the print head holdermoves to the right. Close and reopen thecover to return the holder to the center.Start HereEasy Setup Instructions1 Unpack the Printer1 Carefully remove all items from the box.PIXMA iP6700DPhoto PrinterDocumentation andSoftware KitPIXMA iP6700DPrint HeadPower Cord3 Install the Print Head1 Remove the print head from its package.CAUTION: There might be some transparentor light blue ink on the inside of the bagthe print head comes in, or the inside of theprotective cap. This has no effect on printquality. Be careful not to get ink on yourselfwhen handling these items.2 Remove the orange protective cap from theprint head.NOTE: Do not touch the print head nozzlesand the electrical contacts.3 Firmly raise the print head lock lever until itstops into place.4 Slide the print head into the holder.The print head will rest at a slight angle.5 Lower the print head lock lever carefully andpress it down.4 Install the Ink Tanks1 Peel back the orange tab completely andremove the plastic wrapper from the YellowInk Tank (CLI-8Y).2 Twist off and discard the orange protectivecap located on the bottom of the ink tank.IMPORTANT: Do not touch the electricalcontacts.NOTE: To avoid spilling ink, never press onthe sides of an ink tank. Do not touch theopen ink port once the protective cap isremoved, as this may prevent the ink frombeing ejected properly.3 Insert the yellow ink tank into the right-handslot.Press the mark on the ink tank until itclicks into place and then its lamp lights red.4 Insert the remaining five ink tanks into theirappropriate slots. Ensure that ink tank lampslight red.5 Close the inner cover and then the cover.The message requesting head alignment isdisplayed on the LCD. Go to the next step.NOTE:• The printer will perform a print head cleaning.Wait until the POWER lamp displays a steadylight before proceeding.• If the Alarm lamp still lights even after theprinter has stopped making operating noises,an ink tank may not be installed properly. Openthe cover and make sure that the ink tanks areinstalled in the correct order directed on thelabel.5 Align the Print Head1 Lift open the paper support and extend thepaper output tray.IMPORTANT: Be sure to close the inner covercompletely, or the paper will not feed properly.2 Pinch the paper guide and slide it to the left.Load a few sheets of blank paper into the autosheet feeder, align the paper with the rightside of the cover guide, then slide the paperguide toward the left edge of the paper.3 Ensure that the message requesting headalignment is displayed on the LCD, select Yesusing the buttons and then press the OKbutton.The pattern is printed. And the print head isaligned automatically.IMPORTANT: It takes about 4 minutes to finishprinting.When automatic print head alignment cannotbe executed correctly, the message "Autohead align has failed. Press [OK] and repeatoperation.
