83Shooting – Selecting Particular Effects2 Turn the main dial and select ashutter speed.3 Shoot the image.z The correct exposure has been set if theshutter speed and aperture value show inwhite on the LCD monitor (or in theviewfinder).z If the aperture value is shown in red onthe LCD monitor (or in the viewfinder),the image is underexposed (insufficientlight) or overexposed (too much light).Adjust the shutter speed using the maindial until the aperture value display turnsto white. If you set [Safety Shift] to [On] in the Rec.menu, the shutter speed will shift to thecorrect speed automatically. (Safety Shiftfunction (p. 86))z If you adjust the zoom after you set theshutter speed, the aperture value issometimes changed according to thezoom position.z You can change the automaticallyselected combinations of shutter speedsand aperture values without altering theexposure (p. 105).z The nature of CCD image sensors is such that noise in therecorded image increases at slow shutter speeds. This camera, however, applies special processing to images shot at shutterspeeds slower than 1.3 seconds to eliminate the noise, therebyproducing high-quality images. Nevertheless, a certain amountof processing time may be required before the next image can beshot.
