When a request has been made to the HQ ofthe sales company by the CINC division in charge of field follow-up, collect the log by usingthe tool.■ Scope of ApplicationThe fax function of the host machine is used as the temporary storage destination of the log.Therefore, the tool cannot be used on a model without the fax function.The tool is supported by Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.The machine and the PC for operating the tool are connected directly by a USB Cable.Multiple host machines cannot be connected to a PC. Connect only one device to the PC viaUSB.● What to Prepare• Device• USB Cable (Connector shape: A-B)• PC with a USB port (OS: Windows XP, Vista, 7)• Tool (CanonLogCollector.zip)** Follow the instruction of the sales company HQ to obtain the tool.■ Operation ProcedureNOTE:The fax function has a data retention mechanism.Backup of data is retained for up to 5 minutes after turning OFF the main power.Collect the log while the data is retained.1) Connecting the USB CableConnect the USB Cable while both the machine and the PC are in operation.2) Decompressing CanonLogCollector.zipCreate a folder with write permission on the PC. When CanonLogCollector.zip isdecompressed, CanonLogCollector.exe is extracted.3) Starting the toolDouble-click CanonLogCollector.exeto to start it. The CanonLogCollector screen will appear.4) Preparation of the deviceTurn OFF the power switch while the machine is in the status (the machine is frozen,misbehaving, etc.) whose log you want to collect.5) Turn ON the power switch before the data is deleted (within 5 minutes).6. Collecting the logPress the [Start] button on the CanonLogCollector screen. When "Receiving log issuccessfully finished." appears, press the [Exit Program] button to quit the tool.The collected log is created in TXT format in the folder where CanonLogCollector.exeexists. Obtain the created log and send it to the sales company HQ. In the following figure,"usb_2011901_132658.log" is the log file. The size of a log file is 300 KB or less. The timeneeded to collect the log is approx.10 seconds.NOTE:While the machine is in operation, log information is continually added. However, thestorage area is limited to 300KB, so the information is overwritten in the order from theoldest log information. Since log information may be overwritten when a long time haspassed after occurrence of the error, be sure to collect the log as soon as possible.F-6-14F-6-15F-6-16
